Self-sufficiency

Our connection with the cycle of life is insufficient, and we are dependant on exhaustible resources. Since systems using renewable energies are already known, we can imagine colourful possibilities for the future. Even the little steps towards self-sufficiency that we have made give us a sense of meaning and have connected us with hundreds of projects around the world.

First Prague Earthship built - Zemelodka

lodka2_01.jpg
3 years ago we started to build an off-grid greenhouse based on Michael Reynold’s architecture of Earthships. Thanks to this initiative, we have formed a dynamic team with which we used to establish Vila Flora. However, municipality is asking us to dismantle the walls and remove the tires from the plot. We are lobbying to change their position and properly inform them of this project. If we can continue with the contruction of this Earthship, we will be able to study its thermal benefits, systems of water reuse and year-long planting in our climate.

Aquaponic System

akvaponie.jpg21 fish lived in an aquaponic system during the first year of Vila Flora. Thanks to their metabolization of food scraps our vegetables and herbs were growing, and in turn purifying the water. However, we were forced to pause the project as we were unable to attain certain elements that were key to its success. In Winter 2017, we plan to upgrade the aquaponic system and harvest fresh food in the kitchen once again.

"What we like" Shop

shopeak.jpgIn Vila Flora there is a little shop with products that we use and like. It makes sense for us to buy natural & friendly products not just for ourselves, but in bulk in order to offer them to others. We offer natural tooth-brushing sticks Yoni, bird friendly coffee BirdSong, and environmentally safe cleaning products Econea. We are step by step expanding our shop into “Ahimsa gallery”: a house full of nonviolent products that make life better for the people to use them, for the people to produce them, and, of course, for the environment.
